From The Plot - latest news on the village allotments

Knockholt Village Allotment Association was formed in January this year on land let out by the owners, the brewery Shepherd Neame for the use of the villagers.

All plots are half the standard measurement – a still overwhelming amount of land to dig! However all were readily rented out and the hardier allotmenters began their prep work amidst the frost snow and gales. So far, despite enormous variations on the weather front, work has gone on from strength to strength. Pigeons and slugs permitting!

Saturday 5 th June saw the official opening of our allotment site by Matthew Wilson ‘The Landscape Man'. Invited and gathered were all those who had helped make this allotment site possible as well as interested villagers, although it is of course an ongoing project for the Committee and allotmenters. The sun shone for us and it was high spirits throughout. Our plant swap stall proved a great success and Knockholt will surely be awash with both Brussel Sprouts and Cauliflower this winter!! After planting an Espalier plum tree Matthew Wilson joined us all for a celebratory lunch in The Harrow pub opposite our site.

Although a new allotment association the sense of community and support for each other is something we are all enjoying and benefiting from. Currently all plots are taken however if you are interested in our waiting list please do contact Sabrina Little (Association Secretary) via kvaa@hotmail.co.uk or sabrinalittle@hotmail.com
