KNOCKHOLT PARISH COUNCIL
Going ‘fourth’ with the return of the Community and Voluntary Awards
After taking a year off in 2018, Sevenoaks District Council’s ‘Making it Happen’ Community and Voluntary Awards is making a big return for the fourth time next year, once again giving residents the chance to nominate their local unsung heroes.
The awards will take place on Wednesday 13 February with a glamorous ceremony at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks and will see more inspirational community stalwarts and dedicated volunteers being recognised for their work to help others across the District, with a famous face or two handing out the trophies.
The ‘Making It Happen’ awards are made up of twelve categories this year, introducing new trophies on offer such as ‘Equalities Champion’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ as well as the return of regulars such as the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award.
Sevenoaks District Council Chairman, Cllr Pat Bosley, says: “Our volunteers and community heroes really are the backbone of our District so bringing the awards back to commend their incredible work was very important to us and our Community and Economic Development Team.
“We are happy to celebrate their contribution and say a well-deserved thank you. Maybe there’s a volunteer who coaches your child’s sports team, a local business who works hard within your community or a charity raising thousands for a worthy cause, so please make sure you get involved and submit a nomination form so your local hero can get the recognition they deserve.”
This year's categories are:
• Charity Project of the Year
• Community Arts/Sports Group of the Year
• Youth Group of the Year
• Best Business in the Community
• Individual Community Champion
• Carer of the Year
• Equalities Champion
• Lifetime Achievement
• Community Safety
• Dementia Friendly Initiative of the Year
• Outstanding Volunteer for Local Attraction
• Older Persons Group of the Year
