Knockholt Parish Council meeting on August 4 th 2008

There were three members of the public in attendance at this largely routine meeting. However the following was discussed which may be of interest to Parishioners:-

1. There have been more complaints about speeding in the village. One in Harrow Road reported to the Clerk and another in Main Road which went direct to the police. The Council is ever mindful of this problem and will be recommencing the Speedwatch programme at strategic places in the village which is a useful deterrent even if it offends the innocent. It is hoped that the main offenders are not locals but those of us who live in the village must set a good example. Please be considerate and watch your speed- the thought of a serious accident in our village is too awful to contemplate.

2. The Amenity sub-committee reported that quotes are being obtained to repaint the children’s play items and for all the boundary hedges to be cut. KCC have requested details of roads in the village which should be deleted from SatNav systems- Randalls Lane, Blueberry Lane and Brasted Lane apparently come up on some diversion routes and their names have been put forward.

3.A letter has been received from a parishioner who is concerned that there is not sufficient provision for dogs to run free and asking if the banning of dogs from the recreation ground be reconsidered. There has been much discussion about this in the past and it was again debated at this meeting. The unanimous view is still that dogs should not be allowed on the recreation ground. This area should be for all villagers and their children to enjoy without the problem of dog fouling and the sports fields must be kept clean. Unfortunately there are some who still ignore this ban and the cricketers are understandably incensed by this problem. Please do not take your dogs on the recreation ground and please, please remove dog litter from the pavements.

4. There were three reported burglaries in the village in July. It is felt that our new PCSO Nick Barker, who we share with Halstead, has made a good start in his job and is meeting on a regular basis with both village Parish Councils to report on what has been going on. He has proved to be very approachable.

5. There was a meeting of the Fort Halstead Working Group on July 10 th. This group comprises of representatives of all the villages surrounding the proposed site. There have been no movements by the developers and no information as to when they will submit a formal Application. The Working Group is putting together a comprehensive data base of all information pertaining to the site in anticipation of being able to respond with authority as and when an application is submitted. Your Council is ever mindful of the implications of this development and will keep Parishioners fully involved of all plans.

6. There have been 15 expressions of interest in a village allotment site which is a most positive response. Negotiations are in hand to find a suitable site as soon as practical. We will keep you posted.

Next meeting Monday September 1 st at 7.45 in the Village Centre.

Knockholt Carnival

Knockholt has a carnival every two years which is famed throughout the area and attracts many thousands of visitors. In addition to all the attractions of a village fete, including stalls, sideshows, refreshments and beer tent, there are bands, arena events and the famed Carnival Parade which usually has in excess of 30 floats and other entrants.
In addition to the carnival itself, the carnival committee organise other events including quizzes, dances and music evenings. The next Carnival is in 2006 - visit www.knockholtcarnival.org.uk to find out more.'

Knockholt has a thriving Amateur Theatrical Society, KATS.

KATS was formed in 1987 by merging the original group of players from 1945 with the Knockholt Jubilee group. They have several productions each year including a pantomime and they always welcome new members.
