Situated at the end of Ivy Lane in as peaceful a setting as one could wish, the Knockholt Bowling Club has a well kept green and pavilion. The Club was re-formed in 1990, the old club having ceased playing in the 1950's. The new Club was the result of a lot of hard work by a dedicated number of Knockholt and Halstead residents, who spent time and money and a lot of hard work getting the necessary authority to proceed and building the green and pavilion. The Club is a part of the Village Club and all bowling club members are members of the Village Club.
The season stretches from late April till the end of September, with friendly matches played most weekends and Wednesdays and league matches on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Other than league matches, the Club operates a policy of playing mainly mixed matches, all played as triples( three players each team).
As a member, one can also use the green to practice whenever they wish subject to the start times decreed by the Green Liaison Officer and there is no additional charge once the annual fees
are paid. The current fees are:-
Joining fee( once only) £32
Annual Subscription £37.50
Green Fees £45
Of the above, £5 is the fee to be a member of the Village Club, which is mandatory.
All are welcome to apply to join, from teenage to any age (one of our members died recently at the age of 101 and was still playing outdoors at 92 and indoors at 96). If new to the game, we have excellent coaches/instructors, including a National Umpire and instruction can be arranged.
Although anyone can join us, we would welcome more members from Knockholt and Halstead
It is a game well suited to older citizens, giving gentle exercise and a great opportunity to socialise for a few hours every now and then.
There is an Open Day at the green in early May, when all are welcome to discuss with Club officials and try their hand at the game

Knockholt Cricket Club was reformed in 1976, having previously folded in the late fifties. A small band of dedicated players produced a tolerable square from a rough field-like surface. The fixture list contained fifteen Sunday games in that first year.
By 1980 the club was really up and running. The fixture list had been extended and a side was fielded every Saturday and Sunday in the season. With much hard work and at no little cost the square had become one of the best in the district, with mains water supply being laid on. A small wooden pavilion gave the Recreation Ground a picturesque look. Through the years a full strength Knockholt side had become a formidable village team and by the mid-eighties, we joined the majority of Kent clubs in playing league cricket. In 1988 we finished the season as league champions.
In 1990 the club reached the final of the Sevenoaks District knockout competition, the “Clark Trophy”, being beaten by the strong Orpington Club. Even this achievement was surpassed in 1994, by beating Holmsdale, a Kent premier league side, in the final at the Vine. More success followed in the nineties as we twice won the District end of season 6-a-side competition: and in 1999 carried off the title in the “Bat and Ball Sports” sponsored League after several years of being runners up.
In 2008 we were accepted in the stronger West Kent Village Cricket League and we hope this initiative will secure the future of cricket in Knockholt. We finished third in our league, one place off being promoted but have high hopes to improve on that this coming season The cricket club has its own website http://knockholt.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp where you can see more about the club, and in the season read the
“un-biased” match reports.

Are you an ‘Evergreen’ or an Old Codger?
Do you like to go out and chat with friends, visit sites of interest and enjoy a good meal?
Do you like to pit your whits against others (in a friendly manner)?
Do you like to hear about peoples’ life journeys?
Or do you stay indoors letting life pass by?
It’s quite strange but the term ‘Evergreen’ has become to suggest ‘old’.
I hear of other ‘Evergreen’ Clubs changing their names and gaining new members straight away! Why? The format of their meetings’ didn’t change.
Well, we at The Knockholt Evergreens (Over 60’s) Club continue to ‘progress with the times’ and grow.
Over the last couple of years we have welcomed 11 new members and although their ages span 30 years, their average age is just 66 years young!
During the last two years we have enjoyed visits to Borde Hill Gardens; Hadlow College; Haskins Garden Centre; Lamberhurst Vineyard; Leeds Castle; The London Eye; Pashley Manor and also enjoyed a Cruise on The Thames. We have popped out for Pub Lunches; Birthday Parties; Garden Parties and Christmas Parties.
We’ve also enjoyed a cross-section of speakers; competitions/quizzes and ‘shows’ – and of course, a cup of tea with a piece of cake.
Does this sound like something you would like to become part of? We meet on alternate Thursday’s in our Village Centre from 1.45pm until 3.45pm.
If so, phone Wendy on 01959-533301 or Phyllis on 01959-532385 and discuss further.

Chairman Phil Baxter took over the reins in 2007 and has been happy to see the membership and the entries into our shows increase over the last few years.
Each year we hold a Summer Show in June and an Autumn Show in September and the Village Hall has been overflowing with home grown and home made entries, a truly village atmosphere can be experienced when you visit the shows.
We try to vary our events as much as possible each year:
2008 was a busy year for the Society, along with the shows we had a trip to Oxford Botanical Gardens; a Garden Open in Crockham Hill, a fantastic float, filled with marigolds was entered into the Carnival parade, and a talk was presented by TV star Christine Walkden.
2009 starts with guest speaker Bob Ogley at our Cheese and Wine Evening, then Michael and Anna Glasspool open their garden on 31st May and several of our members are opening their gardens for our very own Garden Safari in June and the year comes to a close with a talk by Bob Flowerdew in November.
Every year our Chairman opens Cottage Farm garden under the National Gardens Scheme – see ‘What’s On’ for dates
If anyone would like to see a copy of our annual schedule and consider joining, they can contact Judith Pitman on 01959 532002

Biggin Hill and Knockholt Junior Football Club play their football on the ‘ Top Pitch ’ at Knockholt Pound. There are two teams, the Under 17 ’ s and the Under 15 ’ s. Both teams play in the Tandridge Football League, a ‘ Sunday League ’ and one of the largest junior football leagues in England. Our teams have been successful over recent years and now play a high standard of junior football. Visiting teams come from as far afield as Richmond and Wandsworth as well as Kent and Surrey.
Biggin Hill and Knockholt Football Club feel extremely privileged to be able to play their football at such a superb location and on such a fantastic playing surface. The management of the team and the parents share this view. On a Autumn/Spring morning with the sun shining it certainly is a wonderful place to be (not so sure about a freezing cold and wet day during January or February though)!
Over the Summer of 2009 Biggin Hill & Knockholt FC have forged new links with Darwin FC, a Biggin Hill based football club. Darwin currently play their eleven a side football at Biggin Hill Recreation Ground and mini soccer at Charles Darwin School. Darwin would like to bring a team to play at Knockholt in the 2010/2011 season. Darwin FC are a Charter Standard Club and are growing all the time. Currently they offer football for ages from Under 7 right through to Under 15. If anyone has a child between the ages of 6 - 15 who is interested in playing football they can contact Darwin FC Secretary, Ros McMahon, e-mail rosmacmahon@live.co.uk
If anyone has any queries or questions about football club matters, could they please get in touch with the Secretary, John Marshall, 01959 575249 (or mob 07763 060594), e-mail j.marshall@talk21.com

We are a small group of like-minded people, - all ages and sizes! Our aim is to present to our audiences a mix of entertainment over the year which could include a variety or musical show, a panto, a play or a music hall.
We are very proud of our Kytens who range in age from 8 – 16. They are a talented, lively bunch who love to entertain.
All of our performances are held in Knockholt Village Hall as are our rehearsals.
We always welcome new faces, both to KATS and KYTens, so if you are at all interested in drama or music, or if you have a flair for the ‘technical’ stuff i.e. lights, sound, backstage or if you just fancy meeting some new people and could help in any way we would be very pleased to hear from you.
Please browse our website, we hope you find it interesting. You will see details of our forthcoming productions and events as well as photos of our past productions.

The Knockholt Carnival is one of the largest village carnivals in the South East of England attracting between 7,000 and 10,000 visitors from all parts of the South East.
The next Knockholt Carnival is on Saturday 17 th July 2010.
Apart from a short break during the 1980s the Knockholt Carnival has taken place every other year since it first started in the1950s.
People of all ages come to watch the fantastic themed parade of home made floats, up to a mile long, as it weaves its way through this historic village on the North Downs and which is also the highest in Kent. Each Carnival has its own theme and for 2010 the theme will be ‘Down to Earth’. After the parade people spend the afternoon in Knockholt where there is a traditional country fair with well over 100 stalls and attractions.
The Knockholt Carnival is planned, organised and delivered by the Carnival Committee, made up of local people from Knockholt and its neighbouring villages of Halstead and Cudham. The Committee works all year round (convening soon after each Carnival to plan the event). It also organises other fundraising events in between carnivals.
In recognition of its valuable work throughout the South East , Kent Air Ambulance will be the main beneficiary of Carnival 2010.
For more information on upcoming events visit www.knockholtcarnival.org.uk or email info@knockholtcarnival.co.uk Also, keep an eye out for news of the Carnival in St Katharine's Parish News and in the Knockholt and Cudham section of the Sevenoaks Chronicle.

Knockholt Village Tree Society |
|
| |
Knockholt villagers are lucky enough to have their own areas of woodland - Vavasseur's Wood and Blueberry Wood in Main Road - for picnicking and walking.
A fruitful Apple Tree grows from one minute pip; a Giant Oak from one small acorn; Knockholt Village Tree Society developed from a group of six people who enjoyed trees and had spent many hours working in the woodland in and around Knockholt Village. |

Registered with the Civic Trust
Member of the Kent Federation of Amenity Societies
|
| |
The Knockholt Society was founded in 1975 and functions on a broader front than as simply a residents' association for the village. It seeks to serve as a link between the residents and various local authority organisations, as well as being a ‘watchdog' on planning and development matters likely to have a major impact on Knockholt.
The Society's objectives are:
- To stimulate public interest in Knockholt;
- To encourage high standards of planning and architecture;
- To secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest;
- To collect and maintain a record of Knockholt history;
- To be independent of local government, but to encourage a close relationship with the local council while remaining unhampered politically or in the scope of its activities.
Continuing activities of the Knockholt Society include running Neighbourhood Watch throughout the village (contact our chief co-ordinator Slinn on 01-959-532-300 for details of your local link person) and providing an informal Prescription Service for those senior citizens unable to collect for themselves.
The Society would be delighted to welcome you as a member – please contact membership secretary Betty Hinton on 01-959‑532-045. We hold an annual general meeting & social evening where you can meet fellow villagers, air your views and hear what the Society's been up to.
We look forward to meeting you!
Yours sincerely,
Tony Slinn, Chairman |

The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served, or are serving, in the Armed Forces and their dependants. Nearly 10.5 million people are eligible for our help – that’s 1-in-6 people. There are 400,000 members – a small number when one thinks about the sacrifice made by our Forces during the World Wars and the 16,000 that have died since, fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
The Knockholt Branch of the Royal British Legion currently has 32 members whom meet formerly 3 times a year. We lead the 2 Remembrance Services – at the Pound on November 11 th and within St. Katherine’s Church on the nearest Sunday – and then the inevitable A.G.M.
However, we also hold a few social events each year when members and friends get together for a couple of hours to ‘chew the cud’ so to speak! These events are most informal and always end with a keenly ‘watched’ raffle.
Perhaps you support the Legion via standing order through your bank but did you know that this does not make you a member? Membership costs just £11 per year, so why not join us? You don’t have to be ex-forces!
